Ghost Hunting 101

Ghost Hunting is quickly becoming a different kind of hobby, thanks to shows like "Ghost Adventures", "Ghost Hunter" and "Paranormal State". Amateur ghost hunters are gathering in haunted locations to try to record any sort of evidence on tape or photo. Ghost hunting is not as complicated as it sounds, beginners can start ghost hunting with simple gadgets. Unlike most people would think, you can search for paranormal activities in almost any location, but haunted locations are the best for hardcore research and high class evidences.

Before you venture in ghost hunting, it's wise to learn the basics:

Types of Hauntings:

1. Residual Hauntings: it's plays like a video play back. There is no interaction between you and the entity, the entity is unaware of its surrounding. The event is stuck and repeats itself when conditions are right.
Appearance: A deceased person or animal or even objects (ghost vehicles, etc)
2. Intelligent Hauntings: is an interactive spirit that manifests in many ways. You may see a full bodied or partial bodied apparition. More frequently than that, you may here voices, music, footsteps, etc. You may also smell odours which sources cannot be found . You may also see orbs, mists and other light effects. You may feel touches, cold spots, and other light physical contact. This ghost is the spirit of a deceased human being.
Appearance: A deceased person or animal.
3. Demonic Hauntings: They are non human spirits, commonly known as demons and devils. This type is dangerous and can cause you harm. These non human spirits often disguise themselves and friendly and helpful human spirits.
Appearance: Takes any desired appearance. Sometimes seen as black fog. Manipulative!

Protect yourself and your friends before an investigation:

Almost every ghost hunter do protect themselves before an investigation and so should you! Most of them will agree that it's compulsory.  Say a prayer for protection and guidance before you begin or enter the area.
If prayer is not your thing, then most people tend to go for protection amulet/necklace. They do prove to be effective plus nowadays you can find almost all type of protection necklace/amulets.
Never venture without protection!
Remember, prayers are not only before entering the area/location. If ever you are being attacked, recite the prayers or hold your amulet/necklace. Ask your partners/friends to say the prayers with you.

After your investigation, say your prayer and do not forget to mention (Loudly) that you do not want any spirit to follow you or your friends home!

I have posted some prayers which you might want to check. Print it if you have to and keep it with you/remember them when ghost hunting.

Types of Attacks:

There are many reasons why a particular individual could be vulnerable at any given time. They could be exhausted, nervous, recovering from a recent illness, feeling stressed because of family or work pressures, having financial difficulties, going through a divorce or other kind of break-up, feeling the after-effects of an argument with someone, or taking medication for depression or some other type of mental or physical problem. One or more of these factors can deplete an investigator’s energy and leave them open to negative influences that might not normally be a problem.

There are generally three main problem areas associated with investigating paranormal activities. These are:

• Psychic Attack: although it is not common. It occurs when a negative entity either physically attacks an investigator  (scratches, pushing, hitting, etc) – or mentally attacks them by provoking fear. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if an actual entity is causing the attacks or if it’s all in the investigator’s own mind, but the cause isn’t what’s important when it happens. If you experience anything like this, stay calm and alert the team. You might want to call in your angels, spirits guides, Archangel Michael, or whomever you usually call upon, or hold your protection amulet/necklace.
• Spirit Attachment: can happen when an entity is attracted to your vibration and decides to essentially move in. Partial possession happens more often than we think. Symptoms can include lack of energy, lack of interest in normal activities, headaches (especially migraines), insomnia, depression, hearing voices, memory loss, difficulty in focusing, sometimes nausea and concentrating, and changes in behavior/personality.
• Obsession: although not usually caused by any outside forces, can be equally as destructive, disruptive, and difficult to deal with for the affected individuals. The investigator compulsively records and listens, records and listens, searching for one more EVP. At home, they spend hours plugged into headphones and using sound enhancement software, once again listening, listening, listening over and over again. If their particular obsession is paranormal photos, they take hundreds – even thousands - of photos and pore over them for hours. Each time they look at the photos, they see something new and menacing. The problem is that they may actually be experiencing some paranormal activity, but it’s very hard to take them seriously when you’ve received yet another photo of the coat rack by the front door that looks exactly like a ghost wearing a hat or the streaky car window with the faces in it. So if you find yourself becoming obsessed with this stuff, take a break! Stop your investigations for some time and take some time off. Try to talk to some experienced investigators and seek help from them.

Other General Tips:
  • Never go alone! I would recommend that you bring at least 2 partners/friends.
  • Research the area in broad day light before you do an investigation, get to know the location.
  • Meet the owner of the location/building or the caretaker and always ask for his permission. Do not trespass! You don't want to get into trouble.
  • Bring your ID with you.
  • Do some research to know what you are expecting. Ask the neighbours, etc.
  • It is strongly recommended to leave all negative thoughts before you enter the area/location.
  • The psychic hours are considered by many to be between 9 p.m. and 6a.m. This is a time of heightened preternatural activity due to the absence of natural light.
  • Check the phase of the moon tonight. The Phases of the moon can affect ghost hunting. You can read more about it here.
  • Check for other weather. If you wish to know how weather can affect ghost hunting, check it here.
  • Always bring extra batteries.
  • Bring snacks if you are going to on the site till late.
